Have you ever tried walking around in the dark? It can be a little bit frightening until your eyes adjust or you find the light switch in the room. You may try taking baby steps or use your hands blindly but the reality is you are greatly at risk of stumbling. This example reminds me of how we all walk in our lives when we aren’t guided daily by the Word of God.
Whenever we walk around in darkness each day, without the guiding light of God’s Word, we are at risk of stumbling. There are several ways that you can stumble. One way we can stumble is in the area of sin. In Ephesians 6 it refers to the word of God as a Sword. Without picking up the Word for the day we are defenseless against an attack and kind easily find ourself stumbling. Also, we could miss out on some important guidance that God wants us to have in a certain circumstance that is to come that day. Without Gods Word that day, we will be ill-equipped for the hazards that may be in our path.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
– Psalm 119:105
The Word is so important each day because it acts as a lamp for our feet. It helps us see the things we may trip over or run into. Also, It shows us places that we want to avoid stepping. Most importantly, Gods word shows us how to get to where God is calling us to. Without this ever important light guiding our each and every step we will never reach the destination that God has for us.
